Objectivesto explore the effects of Viagra (Viagra) on the cardiovascular system in patients with cardiovascular diseases: cardiovascular safety in men.
Materials and methods
A total of 24 men with coronary heart disease, including 10 men with unstable angina and 2 normal men, aged 55 and 80, with a mean age of 56 years with a body mass index (BMI) of 27.0 kg/m2, were enrolled in the study. A total of 14 healthy men with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 and 8 men with a BMI of 24 were enrolled into the study. The study was started from January 2010, and then continued for 4 months. The primary endpoint was to assess cardiovascular safety of Viagra (Viagra) treatment, and the secondary endpoints were to assess cardiovascular safety of Viagra treatment at baseline, and during Viagra treatment.
ResultsViagra was well tolerated by all patients during the 4-month study period, with a statistically significant reduction in the adverse cardiovascular events (adverse events [AEs], mean change, 5.4 %, p = 0.0016) and cardiovascular safety (adverse events [AEs], mean change, 3.4 %, p = 0.0032). There was no significant difference in the incidence of AEs during Viagra treatment, but the number of adverse events was higher in the group receiving Viagra (7.3 %, p = 0.0241) than in the group receiving placebo (0.1 %, p = 0.0144). The results of the post hoc analysis showed that the group receiving Viagra had a greater incidence of AEs than the group receiving placebo (29.4 %, p = 0.0031), but there was no significant difference between the groups receiving Viagra and placebo (7.3 %, p = 0.0251).
ConclusionViagra (Viagra) treatment in patients with cardiovascular disease was well tolerated.
